Project Overview
A new housing development of fifty 2 to 5 bedroom homes by Millwood Designer Homes required an erosion control solution on a slope around the boundary access road. Consisting of four sections, two cut slopes and two fill slopes, height varied between 0.4m and 4.5m with slope angles up to 27o. A Platipus Anchored Reinforced Grid Solution (ARGS®) was specified to prevent erosion and encourage revegetation of the slope face.
Solution
Providing this erosion control solution required 2,320 S6 anchors and an appropriate facing material, trenched at the crest and toe of the slope. The anchors were driven to a depth of 2m, with pre-marked positions to speed up installation. Driving and load locking of the anchors was completed using a mini digger and hydraulic breaker, with final stressing completed by hand. Allowing an installation rate of 70 anchors per day. The geosynthetic material was laid over the slope and anchor tendons fed through. This installation process presented a time and cost benefit with the two teams working in sync. The final solution prevented erosion, while allowing revegetation to take place and provide an aesthetic and sustainable finish.
